In Many Ways, SG-1's Last Hurrah
Season 8 was a time of change for "Stargate: SG-1" and the Stargate franchise in general. Don Davis (General Hammond) was forced to leave the show for health reasons, Richard Dean Anderson (Jack O'Neill) reduced his availability even further, and the spin-off series "Stargate: Atlantis" was ready to launch its inaugural season. But the show continued on and Season 8 would, in many ways, be the end of an era. <br /> <br />Season 8 opens concurrently with Season 1 of "Stargate: Atlantis" and a month after the events of "Lost City as SG-races to contact the Asgard so as to save O'Neill from his near-death state. In the aftermath, O'Neill is promoted to Brigadier General and takes over leadership of the SGC from Dr. Elizaveth Weir. More than the leadership of the SGC has changed in this new order. Anubis' defeat over Antarctica has completely taken the Goa'uld by surprise and they are now locked in an internal power struggle to maintain their crumbling empire. And the Replicators are active again, meaning the galaxy will need SG-1 in order to survive once again. <br /> <br />The 8th season was, in a sense, SG-1's last hurrah as the creative team brings the long-running wars with the Goa'uld and Replicators to a head. While O'Neill's heading up the SGC is fun, the departure of Hammond is felt and the SG-1 dynamic suffers with O'Neill stuck behind a desk. Highlights include "Zero Hour", "Prometheus Unbound", "Recknoning", "Threads", and others. "Prometheus Unbound" especially is a fun romp which introduces the thief Vala Mal Doran, who will become integral to SG-1's final seasons. Season 8 also overlaps with Season 1 of "Stargate: Atlantis" and despite the Lost City being cut off from Earth, there is still interaction as SG-1 sets up a key plot point in the SGA Season 1 finale.

Stargate SG-1 never disappoints you. It by far was one of the best TV shows ever. All 10 seasons!

As with all the Stargate SG-1 seasons, great story lines and a way of constantly keeping you wanting more. A continuing series that keeps new story lines coming.
